Some may wonder why I'm such a huge fan of Ayumi. After all, it's a known fact that I
idolize her like no one else. And how I even got into her music despite the fact I live in
Germany. Well, here are my reasons. Or answers, if you prefer that term.
I've always been a lover of asian culture and japanese in particular. Needless to say that
it includes music as well. During my first year at senior high, I was finally able to deepen
my interest thanks to the internet and the growing boom of anime and manga in Germany. Modern
japanese music has fascinated me from the beginning, it sounds so different from the western
one and is far more original. And while I was got addicted to that kind of music, Ayu gave
her debut.
Despite her fast growing popularity, it took me some time discover one of her songs. It must
have been sometime in 1999, the first song being 'A Song For XX' if I remember correctly.
And I've loved her ever since. I may not have understood the meaning of the lyrics at first but I
could simply feel their depth. And speciality. It made me want to listen to more of her works
and there it began... my adoration for Ayu.
First it was the music, later it was admiration for her person as well. She's young, she
had a tough time before her debut but she has achieved what others can only dream of. Japan's
music queen, owner of two original brands and a TV show, songwriter, composer, singer,
trendsetter of Japan's youth and still... she's the Ayu from the very beginning. In my eyes,
she proved that you can reach anything if you only believe in yourself. And I try to live up
to this as well.
Her music makes me happy, sentimental, thoughtful or content. It helped me discover my own
songwriting abilities. Ayu was the driving force behind my change of style and my
determination to go my way. In other words... she is my idol. And I doubt that'll change
anytime soon.
